Event - Year 5 and 6 at Cannock Chase Museum
12 November 2014
On Wednesday the 12th of November Year 5 and 6 visited Cannock Chase Museum to conclude our World War II topic.
The children were able to look at and handle lots of World War II artefacts including gas masks, uniforms and household items. The children participated in a mock air-raid and had to run for cover, taking their gas masks with them, when they heard the air-raid siren!
We then toured the museum and explored a 1940's living room, where the children were able to identify similarities and differences from their homes today.
Finally the children took part in a range of drama scenarios based on events in World War II. Children were able to dress up in World War II costumes and were encouraged to empathise with people faced with difficult circumstances during the war.
We found out what it was like to shelter under the kitchen table. |
Wearing a gas mask wasn't very pleasant! |
|
With suitcases packed, we were evacuated. |
Life during the 1940s meant going without lots of things. |
|
We got to dress in helmets and uniforms. |
All ready for duty! |
