St. Chad's Catholic Primary School, Catholic Lane, Sedgley, Dudley

Welcome to the Reception class, the first steps of your child's learning journey at St. Chad’s Catholic Primary School. We aim to build on children's confidence, curiosity of the world around them and capacity to communicate effectively.

During this very important year at St. Chad’s we will work in partnership with you to care for and educate your child. We aim to offer new opportunities to your child to help draw out their ability and potential, helping each individual to grow and develop in preparation for the future.

At St. Chad’s we strive to ensure that the children get the best possible start to their school life by providing them with a fun and engaging curriculum. Our Reception class team are Mrs Bentley who is the teacher and Mrs Stephenson, our Teaching Assistant. Sometimes Mrs Harris, who is a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, works with us as well.

We encourage your child to work through adult-directed tasks and self-chosen activities. The role play area, outside area, and a wide range of exciting, purposeful activities linked to a termly themes, are used to encourage independence, enjoyment and learning through play. We learn phonics using Letters and Sounds.

The children in reception attend assemblies and whole school Masses, along with preparing and taking part in a reception class assembly, which parents are welcome to attend. Parents are invited to attend a Stay and Learn session during the year. This gives you an opportunity to work with your child to carry out activities in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our Catholic Faith is very important to us and we encourage the children to join in and say our prayers together. We ensure children are aware of the importance of prayer and reflection. Children in Reception will learn about a range of RE topics including Creation, People who care for us, Advent, Christmas, Baptism, People who help us, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost and Prayer.
