Years 3 and 4
Year 3
Mr Wilkinson is the teacher in Year 3, supported by Mrs Westwood our Teaching Assistant.
Year 3 is a very special year because we are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist for the first time in the summer term. This is always an incredible event, and a time for wonderful celebrations with our families and friends. To be ready to receive Jesus for the first time, we work closely with our teachers, parents and Father Paul. This is an important time for children from all denominations as they learn about forgiveness and respect for one another in the context of receiving Jesus in Holy Communion.
Our work in Year 3 is challenging, but fun, building on what we have already learnt. Much of our work is linked to our Learning Journey topics. We use these topics as a stimulus for some amazing literacy and art. A variety of opportunities is arranged throughout the year to extend our learning outside the classroom. Children take part in various visits which are planned to broaden the learning environment.
One of the highlights for Year 3 is the chance to have swimming lessons each week. We love these lessons and work really hard to achieve the hardest of all swimming awards – our 5 metre certificate. There is definitely no stopping us after that!
Our classroom is always busy and filled with bright and colourful displays which showcase our talents and success.
Year 4
In our classroom you will find a happy learning environment where all children are encouraged and engaged in their learning in order to reach their full potential. Mrs Hunt is our teacher, with Miss Newey our Teaching Assistant.
Our Catholic Faith is very important to us and we strive to ensure that we live out our Mission Statement to the best of our ability every day. We lead whole school Masses as well as class assemblies. Our prayer table is the focal point of our classroom which we continually update to reflect the Liturgical calendar throughout the year.
Our work this year is led by our Learning Journey units with many subjects being linked together which makes our learning fun. We use art, design and technology, geography and history to help us learn about our topic. We usually link science and computing to our topic theme as well so we can use our skills to find out about our topic and present information to other people, also computing has some great projects in store, even allowing children the opportunity to create own business ideas.
In addition to our exciting curriculum, Year 4 are incredibly lucky to be given guitar lessons on a Friday from Mr Nicholls. We also learn French with lessons every week.
